Gary was referred to us by Social Services after being placed in temporary accommodation. He faced a number of serious issues including homelessness, severe mental health problems due to schizophrenia and depression, and previous criminal convictions.

Following an assessment by one of our Community Facilitators, Gary was initially supported by arranging Foodbank deliveries for him. We then referred him to a specialist project called ‘Fulfilling Lives’, which helps Lewisham residents with multiple issues by providing intensive specialist support.

Through this service he has seen a number of improvements to his circumstances. He has now been registered with his local GPhad a new birth certificate and photo ID arranged, and has also been supported with setting up a bank account and accessing his benefit money online. He also received advocacy support in order to raise issues with his landlord about mould, dust and disrepair in his accommodation. As a result, extra cleaning and repair has taken place and he now has an ongoing tenancy agreement in a satisfactory accommodation.
