Delilah was referred to our service for help with accessing local transport services. She used to enjoy travelling independently to a local lunch club and social activities at her church, but this had become increasingly difficult due to severe arthritis and visual impairment, and the lack of regular car support from family or friends. She was uncertain what transport support she might be entitled to or how to apply so we explored the possibilities with her.
In light of her disabilities and receipt of Attendance Allowance, we helped her complete and submit an application form for the ‘Taxicard’ scheme, offering subsidised black cab journeys for as little as £2.50 per journey along with door to door assistance. Through a home visit from one of our Community Facilitators, we also helped her complete an online ‘Blue Badge’ application so that she could access priority disabled parking spaces when taken on car journeys.
In the two months that followed Delilah was successful in both applications and is now managing regular weekly journeys to the local groups that she loves
