Introducing our Macmillan Cancer Champions Project

Join us in raising awareness of cancer across Lewisham. Become a Cancer Champion today!

As a Champion, you’ll work with trusted community organisations to share important messages about cancer, encourage people to attend screening, and help reduce stigma. You’ll also support mental wellbeing by connecting people with helpful services and resources. With Lewisham being such a diverse borough, we’re especially focused on reaching underrepresented groups and making sure everyone feels seen, heard, and supported. If you are aged 18 or over and want to make a real difference in your community, sign up today!

I have been a Volunteer Telephone Befriender with Age UK since August 2020 ringing my two lovely ladies once a week every week.  I recently joined AgeUK Lewisham and Southwark in November 2025 to work on the very important Macmillan project where we are looking to increase people’s awareness of cancer symptoms, increase cancer screening uptake and also share wellbeing resources with the community.  Prior to this I worked as a Health and Wellbeing Coach for a local PCN working with Lewisham Borough patients in a practical and holistic way to make positive changes in their lives.
