What is Social Prescribing?
Social Prescribing is all about helping people find and access the services, support, activities, and groups that exist in their local community. We call it ‘Social Prescribing’ because, whereas your GP will prescribe medicine, we prescribe social things in your community that can help you improve your own health, wellbeing, and happiness!
We look at all the things that make up a person’s life – their relationships with others, what they spend time doing, what brings them joy – and work with people to identify areas they would like to make positive changes.
Five Ways to Wellbeing
Our service uses the NHS Five Ways to Wellbeing model, to explore areas of people’s lives we know improve wellbeing:
Be Active – Taking part in exercise and activities that get your body moving and benefitting from physical activity.
Connect – Growing your relationships with people – family, friends, neighbours, and new connections from the community around you.
Give – Using your skills and energy to give back to your local community, and feeling proud of the positive contribution you’re making to the lives of others.
Learn – A new skill, activity, sport, or experience can broaden your life and help you grow in confidence to take on new challenges.
Take notice – Being mindful of the things around you, the experiences and the lives of others, to help you feel grounded.
